realisation of wants vs needs
After a week of rumors and speculation that, as usual, were about as off the mark as Mundine's political commentary. And Apple released the iPod.
It's a nice little toy, basically a specced up portable MP3 player, and I don't need one, but hell I want one. I guess the real unfortunate thing for Apple is that now is just not the time for a product like this ? it's pretty much a top of the range player, so it's priced as such, and that makes it pretty unattractive in the current climate. Which is a shame, cos the iPod deserves to succeed.

Unattractive is right - not just in price, but the unit itself is ugly. I don't understand why Apple didn't use iMac-style coloured plastics, especially since it's only Mac-compatible anyway.
If they used the same technology to make a PDA with 5GB of disk space they could slaughter the market (though battery life will be an obstacle).
