a tuesday afternoon thought

So, iTunes supports some pretty extensive Applescripting. And OSX does good stuff with XML/RPC for sending data over the web. Which I think means I could make a little script that grabs the title, artist and album of whatever mp3 I'm listening to, and sends a 'song of the moment' post up to my site. Cool.

Some days I wish I was a programmer.

Update: Some days I wish our net connection worked more often. This is the third time I've tried to post this one.

oz music month

Just heard Something for Kate's cover version of Midnight Oil's Dreamworld, off the new Oil tribute cd. Interesting blend of the instantly recognisable riff with sfk's unique sound. Lovin it, and hanging out to hear Augie March's take on Beds are Burning.

And while we're talking oz music, loved the cover today on the breakfast show, David Lane's awesome version of AC/DC's Shook Me All Night Long, to the tune of Kylie's Can't Get You Out of My Head. I love it!

crispy sugar shell

Two weird events for today: Had a blood test this morning (my first!) and somehow ended up the kids room. So they took out three little vials of the good stuff while I sat and looked at Winnie the Pooh stickers. Secondly, am having weird flashbacks sitting here eating Smarties.. giggle

puts macy gray's light show to shame

The West had an impressive photo of the lightning from Sunday night's storms, which I conveniently managed to sleep through. Being the smart little business people that they are, you can buy it too.

One day I'll get a nice place down by the coast, so I can sit next to a huge window and watch the storms roll in from the sea, which I did one night at a family friend's house. A beautiful sight.

way too busy

There's way too much going on at the Cube to keep me busy well past normal business hours, which at Cube are late enough already. And on a side note, just found out that U2 are (finally) getting their live shows out on DVD! Happy Si! The Elevation tour (with Bono-cam!) is out early December, and we're getting Rattle & Hum around the same time. I'd say it's on my Christmas list, but I'll be buying them as soon as they're out.

Sometimes you just can't wait till Christmas.

more trouble than it's worth

I really hate it when you want to dispute a bill (or issue, or anything) on principle, even though there's hardly any money involved; and the company involved makes it more trouble than it's worth to try and resolve it. Like not returning phone calls, and ignoring you till their accounting software makes noises about further overdue bills. Grrrrr.

big inflatable thing that's not a bouncy castle

The long wait in shade/sun in the Supreme Court Gardens was a pain (though it has now been scientifically proven that we can all touch our toes) but it was worth it for a few minutes inside Arcazaar, a huge inflatable "environment where we hope you will have a vivid experience of the beauty of light and colour." It was an amazing experience, though I'd love to be able to spend hours inside by myself..

Arcazaar's perfect for photos ? we went kinda nuts and took heaps. Here's a few of them.

101 things you didn't know about mauve

Apparently the colour mauve was invented. Doesn't make much sense, but the ABC says it's true. And I'm paying tax for them to tell us this, so I'll take their word for it.

"Fleming for instance, found the penicillin mould when he failed to clean a petri dish. William Perkin was looking for a cure for malaria and instead found mauve."

Which makes you wonder. 'Today, I gave the world mauve. Tomorrow, vermillion and aubergine!'

monet's bday

It's Monet's birthday, and that means Google are playing with their logo again. I love a company that's willing to be so playful with their logo.

you give me somethin'

Kristie, I know you're reading this. Remember how you were going to bring in Jamiroquai's Funk Odyssey? There's no time like the present.

dance, aibo, dance!

It looks like Sony's poo-pooed some (I love this) Aibo hackers who had rewritten the robotic dog's software so it could dance. The wallflower programmers, obviously envious of their pet's new footloose skills, claim the unauthorised software is illegal as it breaks the encryption software used to prevent, well, exactly this kinda stuff.

Which is all quite sad really, it would be cool to have an Aibo, but cooler still to be able to customise it.

more aggrro!

Paid slightly more attention to the vodafone ad on tv last night. "No aagrro!" chic was on no less than three times. Right up near the start she's in her moment of glory, in red, with her big line. Then she's back, cleverly disguised in blue, but definitely there. And again! Three times!
