george's polyserena

My latest muscial indulgence is the debut album from Brisbane band George, who are pretty much band-of-the-moment everywhere you look. It's a great cd, full of beautifully written and lush sounding tunes, about half of which were singles before the album was released.

But that's not to say it's all been heard before. They've re-recorded a few of them, mostly for the better (exception being Spawn which opens sounding a little over-engineered, but rounds out nicely with some new vocal work.

I'm hoping commercial radio doesn't get too into my current fave track, Breathe in Now, because I'd like to be able to listen to it happily for at least three weeks feeling I know every note of the song.

The thing I'm wondering now is where the line of 'alternative' music is drawn.. it seems the record companies (who control most of the music, commercial, alternative or otherwise) have really latched onto the label lately. Powderfinger led the way, Something for Kate got dragged in, and George are there too. The sort of music that gels into playlists on TripleJ and 96fm, co-existing nicely at the opposite ends of each spectrum. It's a little on the commercial side of alternative, or vice versa, depending which end of the dial you're listening to.

Question is, where's the new alternative music getting played?

It should pop up there sometime soon.. It's the latest single off the cd, and I think they're both doing well in the charts.

it is truly astiounding, katie's voice is so beautiful, and takes you to many levels of harmony, and always gives me confidence within myself, (and yes tyrone is her brother _)it makes you feel happy, it just flows and the music makes it so beauty how could anyone not like it? katie is my idol, i cant help it, shes just such an inspiration thak you all the people who made george who they are and all the people who have supported them.

It's a lovely album. Lyrically and melodically very pleasing. I think you made an interesting point on where the line is drawn as far as 'alternative music' is concerned. Nova is good to listen for a variety of genres.

george is without doubt the most amazing band ever. Along with Katies amazing soprano is Tyrones lilting falsetto. Two of the best voices mankind has everheard. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an overproduced pile of goop themselves (eg. graham).
I can't wait until i hear there next album Unity due out february 22nd.
