If you've been paying attention to my sidebar (and I hope you have — there'll be a test first thing on Monday) you'll have noticed that I'm working on a site for my photos, among the six hundred other projects on the boil. Which isn't a lie. It's all designed, and more than half-way built, I'm just stuck on a few non-technical issues.
What I'm wondering is, should I follow Pea's wonderful example and have the option to buy a print? Or have a pay-per-download stock photo option? Would you or someone you know use either option?
Let me know what you think.

Whew. 4.30 and all's well.
I'm installing a new hard drive in the old Powerbook G3 at work. As you do. That really was a beautiful design for a laptop. The plastics and curves still look amazing, three years on.
cough
Yes, well, bring on Sunday.

It's busy. Real busy. Which is good.
I just need to catch my breath.

Alrighty, you have spoken. The Goldfish Diaries has a new celebrity tank-mate. I pity the little guys, really I do*
*Luckily the lid's on tight, so there'll be no nasty "accidents" tonight after we all leave the office.

I'm seriously hooked on the tv series 24, which Channel 7 has thoughtfully delayed massively since it's US release date (go team). I'm tempted to just buy the DVD from the US and watch it early and without ads (win-win!)
Apart from the fact that by the fifth hour, Jack's already having a pretty bad day, it's surprisingly good for a series basically set up around the real-time gimmick. It's got good editing, camera and sound work (the latter two recognised among its 10 Emmy nominations), and the writing's not too shabby. And Keifer. It's good to see the boy on tv other than dodgy Flatliners reruns.

As reported elsewhere, I'm fish-sitting Matt & April's pet goldfish this week. To follow their exciting tank-bound lives, check out The Goldfish Diaries (disclaimer: may not contain real goldfish).
And to keep this interesting, I've taken a leaf out of the home of quality viewing, Celebrity Big Brother, and am going to let you guys vote a celebrity into the tank. So, go for it people! Leave a comment with who you'd like to see stuck onto the back of the glass and at lunch tomorrow I'll plop them in and monitor the changes in the tank.
Today's choices are: Posh Spice, Albert Einstein, Ozzy Osborne, Anthony Mundene (he's got some contract, he's got to be in all these lists. sorry) and a Japanese whale-harpooning "researcher"

My late-night channel hopping on Saturdays over the past weeks has usually ended up with me watching chunks of The Amazing Race 2 and wondering just how the contestants don't get beaten up along the way.
This week they visited Sydney and Coober Pedy, and to my amazement (maybe that's where the 'Amazing' part of the race comes in?) they subtitled virtually every word spoken by an Australian.
What the?

The guys from work left a rented copy of Behind Enemy Lines at my place last night, so in a fit of general lazy boredom this morning after Fly finished, I chucked the DVD on.
What could've been a good movie was pretty much ruined by bad direction, a bit of shaky politics, and a performance that I swear Gene Hackman spent most of wishing he was somewhere else. It felt like watching a 90 minute trailer.
Or maybe I just haven't watched a real action flick in a while.

M is for:
Mosaic, April's band, who I'm watching play at the Grosvenor tonight
Mmmm subway cookies, which I'm going to hunt down after the gig
McDonalds bagels, which I had for breakfast this morning, courtesy Krissy (they're not too bad)
Okay, so I'm stuck. Any suggestions?

Skipping between radio stations on the drive home last night, there was nothing good on the j, or the two decent commercial stations, so I was skimming over the rest of the dial. Then I suddenly get hit by a loud blast of Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
Yow! Shouldn't that song be outlawed or something?

Last night in a fit of caffeine-induced boredom (maybe I shouldn't drink Coke after 9?) I decided to sort out my bedside drawer-o-paper.
It's bizarre to sit down and sort out a couple of years worth of bank and credit card statements, receipts, insurance, mobile phone bills, medical slips... I even found one of my old paycheques from my first job.
It's like the last few years of my life were all stuffed in a cramped drawer. At least the drawer's organised now. Maybe my life will be as a kind of flow-on effect?

There are the fun parts about being "creative" and there are the fun parts about being "creative."
Today's highlight? Technically I was paid to run around the back of the office in front of a camera and walk like a zombie. And dracula impressions.
At this point I'm hoping to get someone else to do any female role that come up, but hey, I could always call in a friend.

I caught M. Night Shyamalan's latest film, Signs, last night. Pretty good, actually. I'm a fan of his work, and while Unbreakable and Signs aren't in the same order of genius as The Sixth Sense, they're still excellent films.
Both Unbreakable and Signs challenge popular storytelling conventions (Unbreakable has Bruce Willis as a very human superhero, Signs challenges the traditional idea of aliens).
Worth checking out, but don't get your hopes up — it's not really what I expected, and it was better than I was expecting. I'd give it 4 stars on the diversionary scale of 5-star goodness.

Friday night's Sleek Geek show in Perth was held at Penrhoss College, an all-girls school. Which made Matt and I think the complete wrongness of the porcelein drink fountains goes totally unappreciated by the school population.
I mean, look at those things. Its... just... wrong! I felt dirty taking a photo of it.
April said she didn't quite understand, so I'm wondering.. is this something only guys are freaked out by?

The bizarre joy of Matt's OhMy tv segment is usually in the process of filming it. Standing and watching someone wander around the city shopping malls semi-naked in a bathtub is something (I hope) only happens once in a lifetime. Ditto throwing a piano off a pedestrian bridge.
Last weekend we filmed the next segment worth of weirdness, part of which involved cooking on a car engine. As part of the filming, we interviewed a pack of Bratwurst (don't ask, it made sense at the time). This won't be going to air in the next segment, but it'll probably end up in Matt's directors cut.

I was talking with Matt last night, with Getaway on tv in the background (and proving that guys can't multitask). The first story we saw was covering an office tower in New Zealand where you can basically jump off the top with a rope attached so you don't faceplant on the pavement at the bottom.
Anyway, Ben was hosting the segment (he's the guy who makes me faintly embarrassed every time he leaves the country) and flatly refused to jump off the building. So they made the producer jump, which prompted disturbing giggles from Ben (more concern). She jumped, climbed back up, and claims she was crying the entire time. End result? "I hated it" Big thumbs up from her then.
Eventually Ben got up there and finally jumped (though I think it's a safe bet there's lots of people willing to give him a shove off a high building, even if he's attached to a rope and harness). His comment? I hate it.
Which makes me wonder: did the company that runs the jumps off the tower actually pay for these guys to jump?

I've had my trusty little mobile for a little over two years now, so I'm out of contract with Telstra, and the battery's pretty much dead. So I'm thinking of getting a new phone (a Nokia 8310 would be sweet, but it's a little expensive right now) and a matching contract.
So what network is everyone on, and what do you recommend? I'm thinking of switching to Optus, with all their offers it's a pretty good deal. I just want to know what it's like.

One of the perks of being a "creative" is that some days are filled with the most surreal kinda work. Like today, which I spent animating a bunch of cows meandering around a mountain, and some UFO's hovering overhead.
Days like this, I could work all night.
If you're interested, the project this animation is part of goes live in September, and when it does I'll definitely link it up here.

Advertising for breakfast cereals is usually pretty out there (and I for one am glad we're no longer encouraged to be 'healthy on the inside' with All-Bran) but the latest stuff from Kellogg's is nuts.
They're advertising 'Winter Warmers' like it's some exciting new product. How do you get hold of this startling new feast? Easy. Heat up some milk and pour it on Cornflakes. The way it's advertised, you'd swear they've patented this. Can I have warm milk on Weetbix (made by Sanitarium, not Kellogg & Co) or will I be visited by the Winter Warmers Lawyers?
Best of all, they have instructions. Under 'Stove Top' is: "heat milk on stove top then pour into cereal"
What would we do without these guys?

Is it just me, or are there more 'bits' in the bottles of 100% Orange Juice these days? I had some today and there's crap all over the sides of the glass. I'd take a photo, but really, I don't think you guys need to see it. It's gross enough just sitting on my desk, let alone loose on the web.
Actually, while I'm thinking about it, has OJ gotten more bitter as well? (I'm talking about the drink here, not the alleged-celebrity, though I guess it holds true either way)

Late last night (after what I'll call a pre-production meeting with Matt getting set for a weekend of ohmy! filming) I did my civic duty for the day by rescuing a sitting duck. Yep, a duck. It was sitting right in the middle of the road by the river in Mount Pleasant.
The exercise involved a blanket, some gentle persuasion and a very soaked jacket (it was raining at the time) but I eventually moved the pretty unexcitable duck from the middle of the road over to the riverbank. Where is sat just as bored-looking as it did on the road.
So, yeah. It was a weird night.
Update: Continuing the Animal Hospital theme, out the back of the office tonight I stumbled across am uuuugh-ly redback spider. It ran in behind a ledge when I walked past, so I went inside looking for spider-killing things. We didn't have any insect spray stuff, so I used lavendar air freshener instead. I figure even if it's still alive, we should be able to smell it coming.

Filling in all the Pay Summaries for everyone to give to the friendly tax office, I noticed there's room to declare gross payments of up to $9,999,999 (the tax office doesn't seem to care about cents).
Damn! I'd be happy with six digits in those boxes, let alone seven.

Triple J's Breakfast with Adam & Will is consistently good enough that I seriously consider getting up at 6am just to listen to more of it. Adam's much more my style of humour, but Will's usually pretty good, and throw in Liz Ellis' sports reports and the always weird half-hour news updates and you've got a good reason to at least wake up before 9 every morning.
For those that missed it, check out their brilliant interview with The Rock (1.9 meg, MP3). It made my day.

Last night after half-watching the pretty disappointing Rove Live, I stumbled across the National IQ Test 2002 on Nine. Is anyone else concerned that it's sponsored by a tub of margarine? I didn't actually watch most of the thing, so I can't say much really, but I did manage to catch Eddie insulting anyone with a "below average" IQ. Nice work, Mr Macguire. Did you do the test? How'd you go?

I think in general I'm a pretty passive guy. I don't snap. I don't yell. But sometimes I just want to go off my nut at someone, just let loose. And I never do.
Today I wanted to (and incidentally, legally had every right to) go absolutely off at a guy. I didn't, but I probably should have. I'll probably write about what happened when I don't tense up just thinking about it.
Am I a better person for that? I don't know.

Krissy has been on a binge shopping trip in one of those cutsie shops filled with stuff that's got every conceivable surface covered with little asian cartoon characters. Her desk's surrounded by piles of little notepads, diaries and stickers... it's bizarre.
She's got a brilliant quote off one of the websites up on her site right now, but she made a spectacular sequence of typos in the entry title, changing 'I want to have an aggressive love attack' (which is itself, uhm, well, yes, let's move on) to the even weirder title 'I want to have an addressive loce attached'.
And according to Acronym Finder, that could mean having the Department of Defence attached. Which can't be fun.

I don't have a net connection at home (hell, I don't even have a working phone line at home, but that's another story) so there are plenty of things I'd write about here if I could remember what they were the next day when I get to work. If I had a laptop with a charger that worked (another story again) then I'd write what I was thinking, and upload the next day. Anyway. A few thoughts from the past week worth of evenings:
1200 Techniques played Karma on The Panel on Wednesday. Including a member of the band whose sole purpose in the performance was to play the egg. Weird.
The Bill had some weird Tomb Raider reference when I channel-hopped past last weekend. Somehow I find it hard to believe The Bill and Tomb Raider's audiences overlap.
Oh, and I forgot to mention this when I first wrote this entry: rage had a kylie special on Saturday night. Weirdness. Any time rage starts off with the locomotion, it's going to be an interesting ride. I gave up about 2 songs in, proof once more that we're not quite ready for the 80's to be cool again.

So, anyway. McDonald's scrabble competition is pretty much over. I think I had two 'meals' during the whole thing, and I managed to collect the letters for MIR. I don't remember seeing it listed as a prize, but hey, those crazy Russians!

In case you're wondering, I've put together an about page. Why? Well, I figured I may as well, if nothing else it might avoid little misunderstandings (though Matt and I got so much milage out of that — usually at my expense, but hey — I'd probably do it again). Check it out.
