Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh take me back to the start
Maybe it's my dormant Scottish genes reacting to the sudden onset of spring, but I spent most of today listening to Travis (and working, of course).
Their second big hit release, The Invisible Band, is a bit harder to pin down than the first which somehow feels like Scotland. And train rides through Scotland in winter feel like Travis. It's a chicken and the egg thing for me.
And while I'm talking about Travis, at the moment their 'More Than Us' DVD is a close second to U2's Elevation in the best music disc race at my place. Check it out sometime.

There's something disgustingly addictive about McDonald's cookies (and that's despite the dodgy 'cool dude' text on the front of the box). And at 55cents a box, they're like the bargain basement alternative to Subway cookies, which are the real reason subway are still in business.

This morning on my drive into work, I passed our usual kids crosswalks complete with not-very-jolly looking crosswalk attendants (shouldn't happy and laughing be part of the job description?).
Except he wanted to cross the road himself. And he didn't use his little traffic-stopping flags. It was weird — do you stop to let him cross, because he's the crosswalk guy, or when there aren't kids is he just a normal pedestrian, stripped of all his traffic-stopping superpowers?
And this is why I don't drink coffee.. I actually think like that first thing in the morning.

Another Saturday means another day filming for Oh My. This week had us in the city shopping malls with a large cake. It all went disturbingly well, despite some discreet tailing by police on foot (it's okay, our bail money has been stowed safely for another week or two).

Flicking through the real estate section of the paper last night, I noticed a 2-bedroom apartment in the Boans Warehouse, East Perth, for sale. The Boans Warehouse. And it was open yesterday for an hour in the afternoon. If I'd seen the paper earlier I would've gone and checked it out, just to see what those apartments look like inside. From the photos I've seen in the past, it's pretty sweet.
The photos are bit flat, so some imagination is required. Maybe I should get a side job taking photos of all these swanky apartments?

One of life's simple joys is going through the stats for this website and finding out what the weird and wonderful searches that ended up in someone reading this site. No really, it's fun. In a weird, avoiding work kinda way.
In August one search for also decided that he's obviously just popped an inflatable drag ended up here. I gave it a spin on Google, but none of the results lead here.
There's also a bunch of searches which are just a list of words, with a string of or's in between. For example: diversionary or jeopardy or urinating or enforces or otter. Which brings up this exciting-sounding link at dogpile.com — Click Here to buy diversionary jeopardy urinating enforces otter products at Ebay!
Woo! Try and stop me!

With all the visual overload of 9/11 in the media, make sure you stop by the Sonic Memorial.
The World Trade Center is a microcosm of American life. It's important to put it in a larger context than 9/11.
— Nikki Silva, producer of Lost and Found Sound
It's a collection of sounds collected from the voicemail, interviews, ambient sound and media coverage of the WTC attack, but also puts it in perspective with sounds from the building's life, from construction to collapse.
There's a flash-based interactive soundscape, which works quite well at making the experience something more than just clicking through a list of soundbytes. A searchable database of mp3s is also available, if you want to focus in on one area of the collection.
It's a great way of recording history in a format that's useful to researchers and historians in the future, and as a memorial for future generations.

The footage of the World Trade Centre collapsing is amazing. It's a powerful image, and I'd say it's about as shocking to watch today as it was a year ago "live on tv." Except it's being trotted out over and over in painful slow-motion every hour in news bulletins and "memorial" specials.
Memo to the media: stop showing it. Those images still evoke a powerful emotional response. Don't abuse that.

I was running along with Matt and the OhMy folks on the weekend, taking photos of all the craziness along the way. Except I get easily distracted.
I'm not sure when this ep goes to air — I'd guess mid October, but I'll let Matt correct me.

In case, like me, you've crafted elaborate plans that give you a very good reason to be away from the tv at 7pm weeknights, you may not have noticed the dim light shining above the heads of Channel Ten's programming department.
That's right, we're now subjected to only three episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond a week, down from the 'seriously' overdose level of eight.
Ladies and gentlemen, I think we've answered a long-asked question here. Yes, there is a god.
Now if only they'd stop showing it all together, I'd buy shares.

U2 have released the track listing and info on their 1990-2000 Best Of cd, due out November 4. It sounds like a good bunch, especially if the b-sides disc comes anywhere near the first best of.
But what I'm hanging out for is the December 4 release of the Best of DVD. It's got the videos from each of the songs on the A-sides cd, plus alternate clips for different countries. And six bonus tracks, and a doco on their trip to Sarajevo in 1997.
Oh, and director commentaries on the video clips from such fine folks as Wim Wenders and Anton Corbijn.
The only bummer is that December 2nd is too early for a Christmas present! But hey, I can handle early gifts. Bring it on, people!

Wise words from a $10 note:
No foe shall gather our harvest
Or sit on our stockyard rail
And in other interesting money info, apparently it's illegal to pay a shop with more than $5 worth of silver coins. And here I was collecting all my 5 cent coins to buy the new Motor Ace cd.

This morning I woke up early, so I flicked on the tv for a few minutes before I came into work. And then I remembered why I stopped watching morning tv.
The "current affairs" news show was in the middle of a 4WD in the city debate that was all about getting two opposing sides to fight it out, and nothing to do with the issue. What was on next?
A segment from a tv doctor on why everyone has the flu this year, and an interview with an apparent expert on lingerie for the summer.
Meanwhile, in the real world...

A couple of Macromedia MX t-shirts and hats arrived in the office today. It's amazing how much people fight over free stuff with someone else's logo on it.

In the middle of a big serious business meeting yesterday, it suddenly dawned on me that me and the designer next to me were scribbling notes to each other on the corner of a pad. And nudging to prompt a reply. Because whispering looks too conspiratorial, and my voice doesn't really work that quiet. It's all very primary school, really.
I felt like I was 7, and writing about how Suzie (not her real name) has a big nose. And stuff.

Does French Toast have any subtle, hidden provincial french qualities? Or did it just sound better than Egg Toast?
