moving on (and walking away)
In a move that's a mix of making-the-most-of-it and more than a little just-get-it-over-with, Channel Ten's showing the final season of The X-Files two at a time on Saturday nights. Not exactly prime time.
Now I've got something of a history with that little paranoid mess of a show, which as far as I was concerned ended almost two years ago. I haven't watched an episode since.
But something made me tune in on Saturday.
I guess curiosity, like checking in with an old high-school friend. Once so much was in common, but long since going in different directions.
And it's pretty depressing to watch. Mulder nowhere to be seen, Scully relegated to a bit part, and worst of all, a big-budget remake of the opening titles. Which is no great sin, it's been seven years, so it's fine to throw a bit more money in the ring and get some stylish titles; except they've just reshot the original sequence in crystal-clear high definition. Which kinda defeats the purpose.
That really summed it up for me. Lots of style, a bigger budget, but a lot less soul.
Maybe it's just me, but does anyone watch The X-Files any more?
