any excuse to stop the nation

So today was the Melbourne Cup. Woo.
In our office it's just an excuse for a party. So come lunch we were pretty much gathered around the barbecue out in the backyard, drinking disturbingly cheap "champagne/sparkling white wine" and chowing down on prawns and sausages. And Vanilla Coke. Mmmm.
We had a half-hearted office sweeps, except nobody had any change. The eventual prize pool consisted of $8.35, a rubber band, a 45c postage stamp, a picture frame and a mars bar. Feel the excitement, people.

Incidentally, my horses were Helene Vitality, Freemason and Pugin (who was actually near the front briefly in the middle of the race). Needless to say, I didn't win the fame and fortune up for grabs in the sweeps.

Shouldn't that be "frame and fortune"?
