Okay, so there's weren't any obvious people of the v.i. variety at the opening, at least not as far as we saw. But we did get a swanky yellow wristband to show our very-importantness.
But all that this meant squat once the movie started, because we were at the very back, behind a rope, and everybody courteously sitting on chairs at the back of the main section were actually right in front us. Which just goes to show that being John Citizen is better than being John Citizen, VIP.
Lesson learned, but I'll ignore it this Sunday when we host our own sponsor night in the little roped off bit. But we'll come prepared with beanbags and cushions.
In other news, Calle 54, the jazz doco they screened last night was amazing. I haven't seen Buena Vista Social Club, but I'm definately going to make the effort now. Calle was great if only because they filmed the bands live at Sony Music Studios, so the sound really is studio quality. Mucho recommended.
Wicked Beat Sound System, nyeh, I dunno. I haven't actually heard their entire new album, but from what I heard last night, I think I prefer their earlier stuff. No, really. But they did sound pretty impressive live. Kudos for that.
