You'll have to excuse me: as far as days go, today's been pretty average.
At least it's Friday tomorrow.

In a boredom/new-cd-store double-punch a couple of weeks ago I splashed out on Jet's Get Born and Death Cab for Cutie's Transatlantacism both of which I'd been threatening to buy for a while. The Jet cd actually lives up to the insanely great single Are You Gonna Be My Girl (as featured in the iPod ad we'll never get to see in Australia) with a bunch of great rock tracks and some ballads that are surprisingly good for a rock cd.
Death Cab for Cutie is growing on me. I bought it because (a) the name is cool, and (b) they were the support act for the last Something for Kate tour, which I missed. They're not quite what I was expecting, but after a few spins I'm getting into it.
On the horizon: Mot's gotten me hooked on the Dave Matthews solo cd which I'll end up buying; and I need to grab a copy of Alex Lloyd's Distant Light before the Sunset gig. And Powderfinger. Always with the Powderfinger.

Reviews for The Cat in the Hat are in. They're unsurprisingly bad, even more so than The Grinch (which was bad, but in an oddly The Mask for toddlers kinda way). The entire front page of reviews on Rotten Tomatoes contains one good review. Surely Mike Myers is due for another decent movie sometime soon.
In other news, we're house hunting again. Our landlord's selling our current place in January, so at least we've got a deadline. Last time we looked I just got depressed at how much the places were and gave up. Wish us luck.
I have a distinct inability to sleep in. Which really kills me on weekends when I end up staying awake till 4, then waking up for no good reason at 8.30. Evil, evil body clock.

Cleaning out the office this week I found the words from that Balderdash game a few months ago.
This time around: what is a Zwicky Galaxy?

With a name like Junior you can expect some minor psychological issues in your burger but as Mot pointed out, this is a fast food product with some serious gender issues (or at the very least, a tray-liner copywriter with some serious issues).

As promised, here's a taste of the soon-to-be-legendary pulp horror flick That Thing From Over There as interpreted by the rowdy gang at Matt's place on Thursday. While saving out the original mix this afternoon (as used in the Billy film) we stumbled across some wonderfully dodgy sound effects, so it got embellished to become the epic, big-budget effects mix that it is now.
Enjoy.

I'm not a big fan of landscape photos, but here's one I took a few weeks ago on the Mt Henry spit. What's more impressive is that behind the trees is a six-lane freeway, and just framed out to the right is that big concrete bridge.
Incidentally, has anyone else noticed Perth's loose definition of "mountain," as in Mt Henry? We're really desperate for geographic features if a small bump like that's deserving of mt in front of its name...

I think one of the strengths and weaknesses of pairing Matt and I together to work on a project is the sheer perfectionism that results. Every time we work on a film project, it somehow ends up being a spectacular production, usually above and beyond all reasonable expection.
Which explains how we've ended up spending fairly crazy amounts of time filming and editing the latest, an eight minute video set in 1950's instructional style. It's quite something.
It's worth all the late nights hacking scenes when you can drag some mates around on a Thursday night to record the dialogue to an equally 1950's-style horror flick that's used in the soundtrack. If we get excited I might steal a copy of the audio and pop it on here over the weekend.

It's 3.30 in the afternoon, and the only thing left in my desk at work is an 'XXL' Chupa Chup left over from a showbag. I'm only half kidding when I say this thing's almost as big as my head...

Setlist from the Something for Kate solo acoustic instore at 78's, as written on Paul's hand. Which isn't to say that's what was played...

My mobile phone just crashed.
Which would be okay if it was one of those crazy Windows-powered O2s, but it's a boring old Nokia (with a mono screen!). The backlight stayed on cheerily but none of the buttons worked, even the on/off switch. Problem solved by removing the battery.
Which is easy enough, it's just not a good sign for the rest of the day.

Part of the fun of only having net access at work is that when I'm busy (which is most of the time) I don't get a chance to post during the day, and by 6pm I'm ready to head home and don't feel like posting. I'm hoping to hook up broadband when we move to a new pad soon. So in the mean time, here's some more random thoughts:
