Washed ashore near Trigg, Perth.

C is for seaweed

I'm up to C in the a-z challenge. For the record I have bought my A and B cds, I just haven't listened to A yet. I'm hoping to solve that problem this weekend.

Back to the coast

I took a detour on my drive home last night to stop by the coast, partly because I hadn't been down there for a while and party because it was pretty overcast and I was hoping for some moody ocean shots. The light wasn't great for landscape shots, so I snapped a few macro shots. Here's the first of the series.

The early shift

I'm working an 'early' shift at work over Summer, which despite the tricky Monday morning wake up and the slightly earlier nights, still gives me the weird feeling of having too much free time after work. There's whole hours to fill before dinner!

The downside of which is that I get insanely hungry at 11am every day now. And I think I'm addicted to cherry Coke (old question: can they describe it as "an unexpected hint of cherry" when the product name includes the word "cherry"?)

Return of the Cousin

For everybody who missed it the first time around, SBS are repeating Get Ready to be Boyzvoiced again this Monday night at 10.55pm. If you had no idea what all the fuss was about last time, this is your chance.

Dreams of a pocket

Teachers comments from a home economics sewing class, uncovered hidden amongst high school stuff when packing a few weeks ago:

A neat satchel -- functional. Perhaps straps for when it has books etc in it. Items are well sewn. Pocket is effective. B+

What can a pocket hope to be, other than effective?

Returning to regular programming

Some minor hosting difficulties -- none of which should have happened, all of which happened last year too -- mean I'm probably going to switch hosts. Which is something I've done before and I'm really not looking forward to. I'm thinking Dreamhost. Any recommendations?

And so it begins

Technically, that big CD-a-fortnight thing started two weeks ago. I just haven't quite got around to it yet. So this weekend I'm going looking for two CDs: one from an artist beginning with A, and one with B. I'll probably just head into JB and start flicking through the racks to see what grabs me, but I thought I'd throw the floor open for suggestions here as well.

Any takers?

Somewhere in the city

I can't really remember where this was -- it was one of the sidestreets off the Terrace, during The Lullabies' photo shoot which means it's probably the Lawson building. Whatever that is.

Don't mind me

I've been meaning to replace the wintery grey/green layout on here but Summer's not the time to get things done. I did some messing on a transitional layout over Christmas and got most of the way to loading it into Movable Type, so I figured while it's 40-something degrees outside I'll huddle under the aircon and chuck something together.

The end plan is get something that gels more with the content I tend to post here. It's a very text-heavy design at the moment, which looks very swanky in Safari but I'm sure will be fairly average in Windows/IE. I'll be able to cross-check things more on our test machines at work on Monday. We'll see where it all ends up after a few months.

mt henry bridge (again)

The trawl of 2003's unused photos continues. This time it's the south side of the pedestrian crossing in the Mt Henry bridge underbelly.

a year of music

Sometime just before New Year's I remember having a chat with Dave and the gang, when we noticed that for most of us there's pretty much 26 pay periods to a year and 26 letters to the alphabet. So began the concept of the Alphabetical-new-CD-a-fortnight challenge.

return to mt henry

Digging up the photo of the tree from yesterday reminded me of a few photos from earlier this year that I never got around to posting. Since I didn't get around to terrorising the streets of Perth with a camera over the break, I'll raid the archives for a couple of days. Here's one of Mt Henry Bridge from November.

An update on my poster hunt: I've got my name down for the Gettin Square poster that's hanging in the Luna window. Huzzah!

it's definitely summer

Despite living in the same place for three years, it was only in June that I noticed a tree a few blocks walk away that goes through some amazing colours as the seasons change. It's not far from work, so I might try and check back on it as the months go by.

I am moving only a few minutes drive from the coast, so I'm looking forward to snapping plenty more beach photos.

the commute

The really strange thing about living further from work? I now start driving to work at roughly the same time I used to wake up.

Equally disturbing is that I've lived in that (slightly depressing) house for pretty much three years. No wonder I'm sick of the place.

A small tip

First day back at work looking pretty average? Make things slightly more bearable with a cheesy new mail sound. Most of them are pretty awful, but I can't go past the Jetsons' doorbell (aside: who would ever need a lyrics sheet for the Jetsons theme?)
