a year of music
Sometime just before New Year's I remember having a chat with Dave and the gang, when we noticed that for most of us there's pretty much 26 pay periods to a year and 26 letters to the alphabet. So began the concept of the Alphabetical-new-CD-a-fortnight challenge.
Why? Most of the music I buy is from artists I know. Forcing myself to buy a CD by an artist beginning with a this week means a bit more thought goes into the purchase. Who have I been meaning to track down but never gotten around to? What classic albums am I missing?
The frustrating thing is there's heaps of music I want that's way down the alphabet. Case in point: we saw the insanely good jazz band 'K' last night in Subi, but I'll have to wait till mid May until I get to that part of the alphabet.
Which is why I'll probably end up buying another CD every fortnight just to keep up with the other stuff I want. Moving closer to a JB Hi-Fi will be my financial undoing.
2004 is also the year of music because this will be the year I cave in and buy an iPod.

I only got my iPod a couple of weeks ago and it's one of my favourite possessions I own. I always found that I only listened to a small proportion of my CD collection and with the iPod I can take my whole CD collection with me everywhere. And when I put it on shuffle then I can hear songs that I'd otherwise banished to the back of my collection!
