A while ago I loaded in some old archival posts from an early version of diversionary -- which lets me dig up all sorts of fun info from a few years ago. Take for example the fact that it took me about a year and eight months to go from really wanting an iPod to actually having an iPod (though some of that can be put down to the realisation that I could get one on credit card points, then a short delay while I racked up some points buying other things).

It's time for G in the A-Z of CDs... I'm thinking Gelbison, I've got no idea what they're like but they're Aussie and they were at SXSW. Depending on how I feel on the weekend this may be a double-purchase round (in the fine tradition of B is for bonus! and F is for freebie!).
I'm open to suggestions -- what's a good artist beginning with G?

I see Kristie would love to move to Melbourne. Join the club! I've been quietly stalking the city for years now and I've decided I will live in Melbourne one of these days... I'm just a little tied to Perth for the moment.
In unrelated news:
- There's a Crumpler party on in Melbourne soon (I'm pouting as I type this)
- The West ran a feature story in the weekend liftout about how Perth's young people up and leave for more exciting climes, some never coming back. I'll leave, but it's okay Mum and Dad -- I'll come back.
- Melbourne papers like web designers. Did I mention I liked Melbourne?
- Before I trash Perth too much, the weather's pretty good here. Well, apart from the 40°c + days (with no air-con)

I haven't been posting about it lately (I've been meaning to write up a short entry about each cd so far) I'm still chugging along with with the A-Z of cds.
I've had a lazy month and never got around to E either, so this week I walked away with Epicure's The Good Girl and I splashed out on double the quota for F: The Flaming Lips' Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (because I've never gotten into The Flaming Lips) and From the Cold by Perth band Fourth Floor Collapse (because Sun is a cool song, and hey, they're from Perth!).
The sad news on the A-Z is that while the jazz band K are recording a live cd next Friday (I'm already booked in for a party elsewhere that night) it might not be out in time for K -- late May from memory. Consider this advance notice that I may have to cheat and swap a few letters to make that one possible. Because you've gotta give bonus points for getting a band whose name is made up entirely of the letter.
Anyway, that whole j-k-l bit of the alphabet was always a bit hazy.

Making some minor changes to a site we developed over four years ago makes me realise how far the web industry's come in that time. It also stands out just how much has stayed the same.
In 2000 we routinely coded a range of hacks to get things working properly in Netscape 4.
In 2004 we routinely code a range of hacks to get CSS working in Internet Explorer.
Ain't progress great?

I spent most of Sunday in Planet Studios in Subi with The Lullabies watching, listening and documenting the recording of their demo ep. I'm a sucker for sound gear -- the funky microphones, big speakers, amps, and of course the big mixing desk console. Which is why I spent most of the day scurrying around after the band and quietly gurgling behind the lens.

Everybody's doing that 20 random songs thing at the moment, so who am I to stand in the way of a trend?

The Bunbury trip on the weekend was good fun, even if the guys didn't win that round of the band comp. I've got some great photos from the gig that I'll have to resize and pop up here when I get a chance.
In the meantime, see if you can work out what's in this photo (it's from East Perth, not Bunbury).

Because I didn't think recovering from the flu was enough for one weekend, in the next 24 hours I'm heading out on a road trip with The Lullabies on their way to a band comp in Bunbury, filming and photographing it with Matt, then editing it down into a short film to be shown at their gig tomorrow night.
Things could go well, things could go pear shaped. Wish us luck!

I woke up Saturday morning, the first day of the Labour Day long weekend here in Perth, feeling sick. So I've spent most of the long weekend (and today) curled up trying to pretend I don't have the flu.
I defied the flu long enough to head out and sit on the beach with Matt and April for a few minutes on Monday, but it was surprisingly hot so we didn't hang around long. Hopefully my flu's the same.
