The Year of Music Continues

2004: A Year of Music continues, despite a complete lack of coverage here. Last week saw something of a binge:

  • I couldn't find Marvin Gaye's What's Going On? so I settled for Midnight Love rather than an el-cheapo looking Best Of
  • H was a bonus round: Aussie duo Hamish's Homesick and Ben Harper's Welcome to the Cruel World
  • I got into the swing of things and picked up the self-titled debut from The Dissociatives (Silverchair's Daniel Johns and dance producer Paul Mac) and the John Butler Trio's latest, Sunrise Over Sea, after seeing their amazing performance at the Blues & Roots festival the other weekend.
  • I've also inadvertently acquired George's latest album, Unity and the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy soundtrack to my collection, courtesy of some competitions on the web.

Next week I'm up for artists beginning with i. It's been great reading everyone's suggestions in the past, so roll on with tips for i.

I is for IOTA
I say go for Iota's La Caravana. Pockets is very very cool. And let's face it, without getting overly creative there aren't that many "I" albums kicking around.

Yeah, iOTA are a tempting pick - for anyone who's interested, they have Pockets as an MP3 download on their site ready for you to download and groove along to. Someone else that I've been meaning to check out is Interpol.

For reference, here's the i page from the big giant band list that pixelkitty mentioned earlier.

I think your choice is a clear one, between Chris Isaak and Ice Cube. It's tough, I know, as they both have extensive singing and acting careers . . I believe Mr Isaak has been acting like a singer for some years now. Budoom ching!

I have nothing but good words for Interpol – "Turn on the Bright Lights". It is a great album.

I saw Iota live a few years back. He gave 110% and delivered a show that left me spinning for days. I've never heard a studio album, but i'm sure he wouldn't disappoint.

And of course there is the INXS back catalogue. I walked down the isle to "Never Tear Us Apart". It was all very emotional.
