Yesterday (ish) Apple previewed the new release of MacOS X at a developer conference in San Francisco. There's a bunch of great looking and useful stuff in there, it's a shame we've got to wait until sometime early next year to get our hands on it.

Flicking through the strangely engrossing Mortality stats at Nationmaster.com I came across a sad, sad indictment of this fine country of mine: the stats under the brilliantly titled Mortality by Other lack of coordination (per capita).
According to World Health Organisation figures, Australia is the fourth-most-likely place to injure yourself through a general lack of co-ordination. Fourth. Granted we're talking 0.05 deaths per 1 million people, but still, it's the principle of the thing. Even Canada's ahead of us (but it's only 0.02 people per million, so give them some time).
Two other favourites: death by Striking against or struck by sports equipment (we're 11th, so it can't be the sporty types bumping up the unco average), and the disturbing sounding deaths by acne (we don't rank at all - thank you Clearasil).

It's been a really busy week at work, but we've got a lot done and I'm really, really looking forward to the weekend. Come Thursday afternoon I think I'd gotten past (or maybe just used to?) the stress and was kinda coasting along pretending it was a normal day, and not ground-zero of deadlinesville (population 1, and frazzled)
Humour me some geekiness. It's been a long week.

A big music weekend last weekend -- a couple of gigs and a swag of new CDs (the new K CD was finally released and I was able to get on with the a-z). I started a longish post covering it all but I'm snowed under at work and haven't had a chance to finish writing it, so this will have to do.
In other news, Matt can play pool (I can't, that's why I usually end up taking photos of people playing pool).

Well it's my birthday again -- it kinda snuck up on me this year, one second it was May the next it's the middle of June. Further proof that time flies when you're having fun and/or working hard. There's a bit of both in there. Another year older, possibly another year wiser. I'm working harder and hopefully smarter than I ever have before, so it's been a learning experience.
I had a lot of fun last year asking everyone to email me a photo as a present, so I figure we'll give it a go again this year! So drop me a comment with your email address and I'll get in touch. I'll put them all together on a page, and probably print some out to put next to my desk here at work.
So grab a favourite photo of yours, or head out and take one for the occasion, and send it in to me... I'm looking forward to checking them all out and putting them up here to share with everyone!

I've always been meaning to have a bunch of my photos printed up and framed on the wall to see how they look together, but living in rental places I just never got around to it and there were never any hooks in the right place.
So I just made do with some photos at work instead... Still haven't got frames, but they do look pretty good in matte boards. I see one of the photo labs at the shops down the road from work can make prints from photos sent through their website, so I might have to give that a go.

I think we've proven once again that being busy at work equals no posts. Overtime's not helping things either. Oh well.
In the meantime, here's a photo of the beach.

Apple's new Airport Express is looking like a pretty sweet deal -- most of the useful features of the full Airport Extreme UFO's in an itty-bitty package. Plus you can bridge them to get better coverage (like, say, the lounge at home which is a wireless no-go area for me at the moment).
What's got real potential is the concept of AirTunes, which streams audio from iTunes straight to a set of speakers plugged into the Express (tech info @ Macworld).
The bad news? We've got to wait until July (and no doubt later still in Australia).

One from the other weekend -- I've just been too busy to grab it off my camera. Let the record show I dodged several fairly aggressive black swans to get that close to a duck.

I've been playing with different techniques lately to try and get some interesting new shots. The restaurant shoot the other week gave me a good chance to try tracking people with the camera (giving some foreground movement and a blurred, streaky background). Wasn't exactly ideal conditions, but I like the contrast and the movement.
