Tiger Preview
Yesterday (ish) Apple previewed the new release of MacOS X at a developer conference in San Francisco. There's a bunch of great looking and useful stuff in there, it's a shame we've got to wait until sometime early next year to get our hands on it.
Highlights:
- Spotlight, their take on the system-wide metadata concept, looks like it's going to be a killer addition, especially at work where it's a nightmare tracking down a files that are usually buried in emails.
- RSS built into the browser has promise, but I'll wait to see how well it works in practice. Until then I'll keep flicking between NetNewsWire and Shrook.
- Dashboard looks cool, even if it's a fairly blatant rip off of Konfabulator. Even so, having a calculator that close by will be handy.
- And Core Image is kinda over my head, but sounds like it could have some interesting uses once developers get stuck into it.
Update Mea Culpa on the Konfabulator - Mr Gruber makes a convincing argument.
Also: fun with widgets!
