Twentysomething

After his amazing performance on The Panel last week, I finally caved today and bought Jamie Cullum's Twentysomething on CD today. It's the latest in the quasi-jazz crossovers from Verve, who also brought us Norah Jones a couple of years back.
Jamie's background is rock, and it shows -- the vocals are a bit rougher than you'd expect but his piano's great. It's crossover jazz, a bit more accessible and more radio-friendly.
It's got style, the crusty vocals are great and the jazz-reinterpretations of modern 'standards' (Radiohead's High and Dry, Hendrix's Wind Cries Mary and Pharrel's Frontin') are surprisingly good on their own. And the title track is pretty groovy too. It's all pretty listenable, though Singin in the Rain doesn't do much for me (but you can't win them all).
It's kinda jazz tailored to people below thirty... More in a few weeks once I've listened to it more.
And speaking of Radiohead covers, does anyone else remember Frank Bennett's version of Creep?

ahh yess Frank Bennett, i recommend his first album 'Five O'Clock Shadow.' His second album 'Cash Landing' not as good. Now if we're talking cover versions of creep, i have a copy of aussie country singer Gina Jefferys singing the famed radiohead track, suprisingly, its pretty alright
